Lakewood Golden Unit Meeting-Reimagine Policing

Night Watchmen were first used in Boston in 1630.They walked the streets, called out the hour and kept a lookout for fires. They were paid for a night’s work or their service was punishment for their own crimes.

How things have changed! Now it is estimated there are 18,000 Police Departments in America and 245 in Colorado alone. What does it take to be a police officer now? What are the requirements? How are our police officers trained?

With the event of George Floyd’s death and other examples of harm from the hands of the police, law enforcement has come under increased scrutiny. Is this scrutiny warranted? Are there other ways to handle situations that might improve the way police enforce the law and keep us safe? Where does the community fit in? What obstacles do the police experience preventing them from doing their job? Come explore these questions and more at your Unit meeting. Come explore new ideas on how to Reimagine Policing.
