The author, is Harnack’s great-great-niece, extensively researched archives in multiple countries to pull together the story of her aunt. This 480 page book was published in 2021.

Every reader of the book, club member or not, is welcome to join our ZOOM discussion session, Wednesday, February 15 at 1 pm. Our March book is a deeply researched and transporting exploration of the legacy of slavery and its imprint on centuries of American history, the book illustrates how some of our country’s most essential stories are hidden in plain view. From Monticello, in Charlottesville,VA, to the African Burial Ground in Lower Manhattan, the author skillfully weaves interviews with scholarship and personal observation, asking, “How different might our country look if all of us fully understood what had happened here?”
