February Book Club Selection
Optimist's Telescope: Thinking Ahead in a Reckless Age
By Bina Venkataraman
This selection will explore how individuals and organizations can incentivize decision-making that more positively impacts the future. The author, senior adviser for climate change innovation in the Obama White House, fills The Optimist’s Telescope (336 pages long) with example after example of perverse incentives encouraging short-term thinking, and numerous suggestions and scientific studies supporting incentives for more effective longer term thinking and planning. Optimist is engaging, compelling and gives reasons to have practical, reality-based hope.
