On May 9th and 10th the Education Committee will be presenting information via Zoom. Why is the school district closing schools? What is student based budgeting?  What is the status of charter schools in Jefferson County? Two members of the Jeffco School Board will be up for election in the fall. We need to start considering the issues that are involved.  Why is the school district closing schools? What is student based budgeting?  What is the status of charter schools in Jefferson County? We need to start considering the issues that are involved. The Education Interest Group presentation will be on ZOOM on Wednesday night, May 10, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. which we will discuss at our unit meeting.
 
Our next unit meeting is Thursday, May 11th at 9:15am at Hello Coffee, 13701 W Jewell Ave., #112, Lakewood, 80228. It's in the strip mall right behind Roca's (which used to be Frontroom Pizza.) They have a wide range of coffee drinks tand some baked goods and some small breakfast items for purchase.
Our agenda is:
1. to discuss the education presentations which you will watch on your own on Tuesday, May 9th at 9:30 am or Wednesday, May 10th at 6:30pm. The links are available on the calendar at LWVJeffco.org
2. To decide on Unit leaders for next year. We need a Unit Leader or Leaders (co-leaders), Membership and Voter Service representatives.
3. To collect donations for the Kick-Off baskets. We are hoping to support our book club by creating at least one or maybe two with next year's book titles. I should have that list next week and will share it with you. Items that go with reading like tea, or book marks, etc would be great. If you have a large basket to donate, that would also be good. We do not need ribbon, as we won't be wrapping the baskets in plastic anymore! I can take donations later- Sandy would like them by about June 10th.

In June, we will have the legislative wrap up by Zoom: the date is coming soon!
