What is this?
Mama's Last Hug
author- Franz De Waal
Mama is a chimpanzee, whose emotion is evident when her old researcher and friend comes to visit her on her deathbed. The book, focused mostly on chimps, defies previous taboos about attributing human emotions to animals (real or anthropomorphism?), with scientific studies revealing human-like expression of emotions and feelings by a variety of animals.
Soul of an Octopus: A surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness
Author: Sy Montgomery
Explores the emotions and personalities (yes, personalities!) of several octopuses. They are surprisingly sensitive, complex, intelligent and spirited animals. And they can make remarkable connections to humans. The film “Octopus: Making Contact” from the International Wildlife Film Festival refers to similar observations as the book and could be an alternative.
